About Library

Library : Knowledge and Learning Resource Centre

The Library at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College is one of the most important constituencies at the campus which started functioning right from the inception of the college. Over a period of last 4 years it has transformed itself into a fully Automated Knowledge and Learning Resource Centre by leveraging extensive modern information and communication technologies and CCTV based Security System. As a repository of knowledge and learning resource, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Library has undergone massive transformation in recent years for meeting the increased demands of its users by leveraging extensively all modern information and communication technologies. Coupled with a robust and modern IT led infrastructure, the Library has grown sizeable in its resources and services , readily accessible to each member of our College fraternity. A fast growing collection of library is nearing 6 digits in the arena of books and hundred plus Periodicals, comprising of Academic Journals and Magazines of general interest.

While library expands its wings and modernizes its infrastructural facilities, a special effort has been placed on improvement of services, general ambience and aesthetics of the library with resultant daily footfall of 500+ students and faculty.

Keeping in mind the ever increasing learning needs of our user community, a special emphasis has been placed on enriching the resources of the library for enhancing the research potential of the students and faculty members. Some of the significant initiatives taken in this regard are:

  • A separate E-resource Centre for Faculty as well as for Students to facilitate access to a huge number of online journals, financial and statistical databases, reference and citation tools subscribed by Delhi University Library System.
  • Establishment of “Centre for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Studies and Research” by procuring pertinent Primary Resources on Bhagat Singh from National Archives of India (NAI) and Nehru Memorial Museum Library (NMML)as a Golden Jubilee commemoration.
  • Setting up a Voluntary Book Bank for under privileged students as a social responsibility initiative.
  • Establishment of a Light Reading Section, this year, is yet another such initiative in our endeavour to keep current both in scholarly and popular contents. This section has been set up keeping in mind that it is imperative to expand our learning beyond the Curriculum in order to cater to varied reading habits and interests transcending class room instructions, sometimes and at times. Such type of popular collection not only lifts and lightens up mood but also liberate us temporarily from the drudgery of a routine life and brings some cheers and thrill to it. Such collections opens up to new experiences and motivates us to do something different and off beat.

Physical Infrastructure

It is spread across 3 floors, however, at present 2 floors are functional with total seating capacity of 180 seats in reading halls on first and second floors of the library, along with the stacks. For improvement of general ambience and aesthetics of library building library undertook major renovation work of first floor of the library in 2010, to give a face lift to its physical infrastructure and facilities. The physical infrastructure of first floor of library consisting of furniture, book racks, circulation counter, property counter, periodical section and reference section have been renovated which gives the library completely organized and clean look. For the purpose of providing better facilities to users particularly faculty and research scholars, library has also allocated an exclusive area for e-resource centres for faculty members with provision of comfortable furniture like sofas, round tables and improvised lighting, air-conditioning, etc. Library also has an E-resource centre for students and is also enabled with 3G Wi-Fi high speed internet connectivity and Xerox facility.
