It has highly qualified, dedicated, and research-oriented faculty with expertise in diverse fields of mathematics. At present, the department offers an undergraduate programme namely B.Sc (Hons) Mathematics. The department also offers paper to B.A. Programme as Major/Minor courses. These courses designed by the University of Delhi not only impart theoretical knowledge but also a ‘hands-on’ experience and clarity of the concepts through practical classes using softwares like Mathematica, R, LaTeX, etc. The department has an exclusive computer lab and access to the state-of-theart library of the college with a vast number of books on Mathematics.
The department believes in the holistic development of the students. In this view, The Mathematics Society of the college organizes its annual festival GANITAM with vibrant mathematical themes. This provides a platform to the students to express their creative talent. Various inter-college competitions like Paper Presentation and Quiz are organized during this festival. Various seminars and talks are organized from time to time which are chaired by the department faculty, alumni, and experts from reputed research institutes like IITs, so as to enhance the knowledge and discuss the latest trends in the subject. The department has also been hosting national and international conferences to provide global exposure to the students and faculty. The alumni of the department are well placed in reputable organizations within India and abroad.

It has been 5 years since I have left SBSC and I have constantly felt the effect this place had onmy personality as well as on my career path. SBSC has not only helped me in building a strongfoundation in the field of Mathematics by gaining knowledge of the subject matter, but also helpedme in drastically improving my overall skill set by helping me develop a plethora of interpersonalskills. During my studies here, I got acquainted with many experienced and intellectual facultymembers and a whole range of peers, who challenged and inspired me at the same time. Theflexible curriculum also gave me enough time to work on my other skills and gave me the amazingopportunity to improve my language skills (particularly, German) by means of certificate coursesoffered by the University of Delhi. This step further helped me in not only getting admission in arenowned German university for my Masters, but also landed me with a scholarship here, awardedby the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. I have completed my Masters in Appliedmathematics with a focus on Insurance Mathematics and am currently working as an Associate inKPMG, Germany. Moreover, being a part of the various societies and clubs at SBSC has given meso much knowledge, exposure and of course, such amazing memories that I would highlyrecommend this college to anyone looking for a comprehensive experience.

I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. at IIT Guwahati. Delhi was a new city to me but I found a home in my friends and ample hand holding from my professors at SBSC. I still fondly carry with me a piece of advice given to me by Ms. Jyoti Varshney Ma’am when I was trying to pave my path into the world of higher studies. She said that whenever we climb a mountain, we should focus on the top of the mountain and not what’s going on our side. Even today when I fall prey to distraction, I find my anchor in these words of hers. Further, my professors in SBSC were not only prompt in clearing doubts but also helped me in trying to figure out the right way to approach a problem as college course work is quite different to what we face in school. Besides academics, the annual mathematics festival of SBSC, GANITAM, provided me with opportunities to nurture my social and managerial skills. Lastly, my seniors at SBSC were always there to provide a helping hand and invaluable advice in matters ranging from University exams to preparing for the next stage in our respective careers. Overall, Dept. of Mathematics, SBSC provided a wholesome environment for growth and nourishment. I will fondly remember my three years in SBSC for its life experiences and lessons that were fundamental in shaping me into the person I am today

The 3 years journey in Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has been wonderful. The course worked as a catalyst for my personal and professional goals. I pursued M.Sc. Mathematics from IIT Kanpur after completing graduation from SBSC. Currently,I am working in ICICI Lombard as Associate Data Scientist. The Professors at SBSC went beyond their roles and responsibilities to help and support each one of us and the environment of college was so unique that it gave us a better view of world beyond the course curriculum. Even, after graduating from college, we can still reach out to our professors for technical as well as career advises. I feel that I am very fortunate to be a part of this SBSC community.

For me,the journey as a mathematics (hons) student at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College was no less than a pilgrimage. Here, I grew as an individual, learning various life lessons, making great friends and above all having the privilege of being guided by the pedagogues (our faculty). My first experience as the General Secretary of The Mathematics Society where I was part of organizing committee of two GANITAMs and the National Mathematics Conference, and secondly as the founding president of The Alumni Association, whereinI, with my team, organized the first ever alumni meet, helped me learn lifelong soft skills like leadership and working in a team. These skills also helped me secure second position at the Paper Presentation, It was indeed a great memory. Lastly, thankyou SBSC for the wonderful memories, will always remember the journey.
