Knowledge of history is indispensable to understand who we are and where we fit in this world. History helps us to understand people, societies, economies, states, nations, ideas, and cultures all around the world. The study of history also enables its students to learn critical thinking and logical reasoning. The department strives to impart holistic learning by taking its students on historical trips and educational excursions. As envisaged by the National Education Policy 2020, we keep our classrooms interactive and student centric.

The History Department at Shaheed Bhagat Singh College has highly qualified staff, which is committed to the goal of providing the right environment for our students to understand the historical discourse. The faculty has carried out research in various fields encompassing archaeology, demography, gender studies, military history, regional history, and history of national movement. We do not believe in the dissemination of knowledge in the classroom only, but we also have our history society, 'Historia' to organize various activities like audio-visual presentations, film screenings, debates, interactive talks, and one-day trips to museums and monuments, etc. Our society is also dedicated to inviting eminent scholars for seminars and workshops to uphold the academic values of the department. A two-day history festival, 'Yugantar' is organized annually by the department encouraging our students to showcase their talent via various academic and cultural activities.
